Choice Hotels Asia-Pac welcomes Scott Armstrong back into the fold this April as Director, Development Australia and New Zealand.
Armstrong, having previously spent six years (2018 – 2023) with Choice Hotels Asia-Pac, rejoins the business from his position as Development Director at 1834 Hotels, one of Choice Hotels’ white-label management associates, where he gained valuable experience on the operational aspects of hotels.
Armstrong said he is looking forward to rejoining the Development Team, which achieved a record year of growth in 2025, adding [86] units to the Asia-Pac portfolio.
“Spending time on the operator side of the fence has given me a much deeper understanding of owner expectations, asset economics and hotel performance, and how these align with franchising in an increasingly competitive environment,” he said. Reconnecting with many familiar colleagues and senior leaders genuinely makes me feel like I’m coming home. I’m particularly looking forward to strengthening Choice’s engagement with white-label operators, which are becoming an increasingly important part of the industry landscape”. “I’m excited to bring that perspective back to the organisation as we continue to grow across Australia and New Zealand.”
Armstrong will play an integral part in Choice Hotels’ focus on strategic organic growth, independent conversions, and metropolitan and regional market opportunities across Australia and New Zealand.
Choice Hotels Asia-Pac Head of Investments and Portfolio Growth Trent Conroy said Armstrong brings a deep passion for hotel development, and he’s looking forward to welcoming him back into the team.
“Scott has a wealth of knowledge and insight gained from the operational side of the business, and we’re thrilled to welcome him back as we continue to build on strong momentum across the region,” he said. “His experience at 1834 Hotels has given him a deeper understanding of how hotel owners evaluate franchise partnerships, including expectations around distribution, brand performance, and long-term value. Scott will play a key role in strengthening Choice’s engagement with white-label operators, while continuing to build strong relationships with owners, investors, operators, and advisors across Australia and New Zealand.”
